Unless you are gifted with a stellar memory, learning lines take a lot of work.
A LOT of work.
We’ve only been rehearsing half of the show so far, so four of our actors have been in rehearsal nearly every night, without much down time to memorize on their own. AND, our first night off-book is the longest scene in the play.
God bless our actors.
There’s no easy way to memorize. You just have to read and re-read, speak and repeat. There’s no shortcuts — it just takes time.
So here’s to everyone who has to make memorization a hobby. Everyone who needs to squeeze line-work somewhere between a full-time job, daily rehearsal and their family commitments. The more time that goes in now, the easier it’ll be later.
