An Interview with Pam Strait, portraying Robyn in The Roommate
What is The Roommate about?
Robyn wants to hit the reset button in her life in hopes of reconnecting with her daughter and travels halfway across the country to Iowa.
Tell me about your character, Robyn.
She’s a woman with secrets, both in her life and her moving boxes.
What makes this show fit so well in Theatre B’s repertoire?
This two-hander is exactly the kind of script we love at B: smart, funny, well written, with a message.
What is your favorite line from the show?
I love the line “Are you the Nigerians?” Carrie delivers it so perfectly!
Do you relate to any of the characters?
Robyn’s bad-girl vibe isn’t my comfort zone, but I definitely enjoy playing her.
Any standout memories from rehearsals so far?
Rehearsals have been a lot of fun! Jon is a thoughtful and creative director – he loves to get into granular-level character and actor notes. Working with him again is a real joy. And Carrie is a remarkable actor and amazing scene partner. It doesn’t get any better than that!
What is your theatrical background?
I’ve been a member of the ensemble since 2008 and have been acting and directing in most of the seasons since. My formal training is classical stuff (and we got to do Hamlet this year!) which is a great springboard for just about everything we do.
